Over forty Monmouth Rowing Club (MRC) members travelled to Stourport over 12th and 13th August to take part in their regatta.
Members raced in a variety of age categories & different boat types over the weekend, with squads mixing together to enable most to participate in one race per division. In total 33 crews were entered.
Highlights from the racing were MRC members winning their first pots, with Ewart and Mark L in the E8 and Darren winning his first ever regatta race in the semi final of Mx4x- event.
Louise T winning her first pot for MRC in MxC4- and Ali & Bonita winning the Low CRI W2x event, their first ever race in a double & Bonita's first effort at steering (& what a great job she did!). George competed in his first 1x race, & although he put up a valiant effort was just pipped at the post.
On Saturday our oldest women's squad member, Frances, raced in WE4x with one of our youngest members, Kathryn D, to win only her 2nd ever pot. She followed this up with another win on Sun in the WG4+ ; was like buses, wait ages for 1 then 2 arrive in succession!
On Saturday, racing over 1km wins for MRC came in the following events:
WE4x-
MxC4x
F4-
F2x
Op1x
Mx4+
On Sun the course was shortened to a 470m sprint with wins for:
E8+
WG4+
Low CRI W2x
E4+
F4-
It was great to achieve all these wins, but just as importantly it was fantastic to see the MRC club spirit throughout the weekend.
Many will have added to their daily step count by carrying boats & blades to & from river both for their own crew & others, plus running to the bank to give vocal support whenever a mention of an MRC crew racing came over on commentary!
Massive well done to all who took part.
Many thanks to James and Paul for towing the 2 trailers, for those who coxed or steered crews, & to Louise for her very welcome pop up cafe! As always thanks to Tim Male the MRC coach for all his time and great pre race briefs.
We would also like to thank Stourport members for all the work they put into the weekend to make the event run so smoothly.
