New Rowers Win at Upton

Monmouth Rowing Club's newest rowers celebrate at Upton’s ‘Beginners Regatta.

Five Monmouth Rowing Club (MRC) Learn To Row graduates have been training hard for the annual Upton Beginners Regatta which gives new rowers the chance to experience race conditions for the first time.

With five signed up, Lottie J offered to help out Stratford in a composite crew.

The Monmouth crew consisted of Matt B, Julie G, Grant M and Astrid R and was coxed by Richard D.

The attending crews were Upton, Evesham 1 & 2, Stratford on Avon 1 & 2 and a Monmouth/Stratford composite.

The event was extremely well run, with a round robin format giving six races for all crews. Monmouth support was there in force with partners, families and MRC members cheering on.

A great day and a particularly successful one for Monmouth Rowing Club winning 5 out of the 6 races to take the runners up medal. The Monmouth/Straford composite won all 6 races beating Monmouth by 2 lengths over the 375 m course.

Thanks to club coach Tim for his coaching input during recent squad training sessions, Richard D for coxing on the day and the many MRC members for supporting the crew, sitting in, coxing and carrying the Tubbie boat down and back up the steps, a great team performance.
