Rising to the Challenge: Monmouth Rowing Club's Rapid Flood Cleanup
Storm Darragh might have brought the River Wye to our doorstep (and, let’s be honest, into a few too many places it wasn’t invited), but it takes more than a little mud and water to keep Monmouth Rowing Club down! In what must be record time, our club rallied together to banish the flood's remnants and return our home to shipshape condition.
Mud, Sweat, and Cheers
The hard-standing and steps were cleared of mud at lightning speed, with Harry channeling his inner Forth Bridge engineer as he tirelessly "de-mudded" steps only to see the water level drop and reveal more for him to tackle. Rumor has it, he had to be dragged away by his teammates to take a break!
Meanwhile, inside the club, the gym floor was drained, scrubbed, and given the full vax treatment, as were the changing rooms and medical room. Dehumidifiers were deployed like tactical units to banish any lingering dampness, ensuring we’re all set for a dry and fresh-smelling comeback.
"Ahoys" and "Explorers" Reunited
Our trusty Ahoys and Explorers, which were temporarily displaced, are now safely back in the compound, ready for action as soon as the water levels allow.
A Team Effort
A massive thank you goes out to our dream team of helpers: Colin (our fearless leader), Chris C, Phil T, Liz L, Sue S, Eric, Darren, Harry (mud-clearing hero), and James. Colin even threw in a cheeky self-mention – well-deserved, we say! This crew didn’t just get stuck in; they embodied the spirit of teamwork and resilience that makes Monmouth Rowing Club so special.
Drying Out and Looking Ahead
We’ll let the space breathe and dry for a couple of days before moving the equipment back into the gym. Until then, we can all take a moment to appreciate the incredible effort that turned a muddy mess into a clean, functional club in record time.
Here’s to weathering the storms (both literal and figurative) and coming back stronger than ever. Well done, team – you’ve made Monmouth Rowing Club proud!
