Thursday evening saw eighteen women from the Monmouth Rowing Club Performance and Club squads, plus a number of graduates from the recent Learn to Row (LTR) course, join together in a social row followed by an informal get together with food and drinks in clubroom.
A torrential downpour with thunder earlier in the afternoon looked as though the row might have to change to team ergs 😳, but fortunately the rain stopped and we were blessed with a sunny and warm evening.
The idea behind this event was to have an outing mixing all the squads and to give the LTR graduates the opportunity to try both crew and sweep rowing which should help them with the transition into the club squad.
Women's Captain Liz managed to field two eight's and the session saw both crews do some technical work, trying some of coach Tim's favourite exercises, all of which were done with success. The outing drew to a close with the inevitable competitive element - some side by side racing! Crews did 2 x 30 stroke pieces, supposedly rate capped at 24 & 28, but enthusiasm saw crews racing somewhat higher!! All great fun for both crews. Well done to Julie, Vicki & Lottie for raising to the challenge of sweep rowing for the first time.
Thanks to all who made themselves available for this event, it was thoroughly enjoyed be all. Thanks to Ellen for agreeing to cox, a good job done for first time of coxing an eight.
Look forward to seeing a number of the LTR graduates moving on into the club squad over the next few weeks.
