Monmouth Rowing Club is deeply saddened by the passing of John Jones, a valued member of our rowing community. John was part of the crew that claimed victory at Tribesmen’s Head in Galway back in 1999, a moment captured in the photo shared with us. His dedication to the sport and his camaraderie will be greatly missed.

As a mark of respect, we are flying the club flag at half-mast. We will update members regarding funeral arrangements in due course, but in the meantime, our thoughts are with John’s family and friends.

In a poignant coincidence, Monmouth Rowing Club will be racing in Galway next weekend. It feels fitting that we return to the waters where John and his crew celebrated their triumph 25 years ago. We will be thinking of him as we take to the river, honoring his memory in the way he loved best—through rowing.

Rest in peace, John.
