Charity Night

Monmouth Rowing Club likes nothing more than a challenge whether that’s on or off the water. Last Friday’s quiz and supper night was no exception raising money for the club’s nominated charity the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA). Member Dawn Brace, nominated the charity in memory of her mum who lost her life to this cruel disease and wanted to do something positive. The Club Squad rose to the challenge to support her by donating home-made chilli and accompaniments to 77 enthusiastic

attendees.

Fellow member Scott Hazledine made sure the night was full of banter proving yet again, he is quizmaster and entertainer extraordinaire ensuring there was laughter and singing as well

as fund-raising.

Events like this don’t happen without team work and though it was the Club Squad’s turn to

support one of several planned charity events this year, all squads giving a lending hand to

ensure its success. At MRC we firmly believe that we are more than rowing; we’re a

community as even some members who were unable to attend made donations.

A staggering £1400 was raised and whether people bought a raffle ticket or generously

sponsored or donated prizes to the raffle, it shows every gesture counts. To all those who

provided food, thank you. It meant 100% of the ticket price went to MNDA MND Association |

Congratulations to the winning team who added their cash prize to the MNDA pot. To the holders of the wooden spoon, sometimes taking part is enough!

Our particular thanks to corporate sponsors Niche Private Clients Niche Private Clients |

Fixed Fee Financial Planning for their generous donation.

And our final thanks to Jayne Smith who donated leftover chilli to the Abergavenny Soup Kitchen.
