Today, Monmouth Rowing Club members gathered with pride and gratitude to christen two new Stampfli coxless fours, each with a name honoring exceptional individuals who have been a cherished part of our rowing family. These boats are not only a symbol of our ongoing commitment to our sport and members, but also a tribute to those whose dedication and legacy have left an indelible mark on the club and their families.
The first boat is named Liz Lewis, after our Women's Captain who has led the women's team with unwavering dedication for many years. Liz’s leadership, strength, and passion have been instrumental in shaping the women’s side of the club, fostering camaraderie, and inspiring countless members. It is only fitting that her name graces a boat that will carry rowers forward with the same tenacity and grace she has shown throughout her tenure.
Our second boat, Sweet William, is named in memory of William, the late son of our past Club Secretary Trash, whose life touched those around him in ways words cannot capture. William’s memory will be celebrated with every stroke taken in this boat, reminding us of the warmth and love that bind us as a community, both on and off the water.
These boats are more than plastic (or fancy carbon fibre); they carry with them stories of dedication, legacy, and the spirit of our rowing family. We look forward to seeing Liz Lewis and Sweet William lead us into new waters and achievements, embodying the memories and values of those we honour today.
